Smash is silly, sweet, and just a little bit feral. I often joke that you should never name a dog Smash—and she proves it every day. She goes over, through, under, and directly into everything with zero regard for self-preservation. Yet, despite her reckless enthusiasm, she is a surprisingly thoughtful learner and a willing worker, bringing unexpected focus to training and competition… before inevitably crashing into something.

She greets people with full-body wiggles and kisses, while her approach to other dogs can only be described as flailing, flopping, heavy metal-charged enthusiasm. Fast, highly athletic, and exceptionally flexible even as she matures, Smash is the embodiment of power and agility.

In sports like Barn Hunt, NASDA, and earthdog, she is almost polite with the quarry. But in the hunt field? Anything but. She has worked marmot, raccoon, and even one very unexpected badger with confidence, determination, and a solid dose of common sense. And if you ever need to know where she is—don’t worry. Her voice carries underground and from five miles away.

Whether she’s twisting herself inside out for pets, striking a pose in the show ring, launching 20 feet off the dock, or bolting large quarry, Smash is everything I love about the Parson Russell Terrier—and so much more.
